Tuesday, March 17, 2015 (Travel to Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge, Alamo, NV)

We pulled out of the Overton Wildlife Management Area campground at 9:15 this morning and headed north of Hwy 169, going through Overton and Logandale...

Twelve miles later we turned south onto I-15 for just a short bit until taking the turnoff to highway 168 that took us west to meet up with highway 93.

No idea what this is...no signs at all...
Beautiful scenery along this route...

Most of the trip was down, down, down...into the valley. ..
We connected with highway 93 and headed north...

Entering the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge...
Lower Pahranagat Lake...
Pahranagat picnic area...
Dry marsh area between Lower/Upper Pahranagat Lakes...

Shortly after 11:00, we turned off the highway into the camping area of the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge on Upper Pahranagat Lake...

There is a good gravel road that goes south, paralleling the highway, along the lake to the 15 campsites...

The day-use area with an information kiosk and registration. There is no fee to stay here but they like you to register. We were lucky the camp host came along...she gave us advice on the best spots for us. There were basically only 2 that she thought we might fit into...2 or 4...both are actually large double sites.
We chose #2 because it had easier access for us and was fairly level. The unfortunate thing is that we are sharing the area with a fellow in a big motorhome (he probably groaned when he saw us pulling in too!).

We got all set up and had lunch...and it was only 1:30! Time to head out for a walk and explore the rest of the campground. It's basically just a single road along the lake with campsites. Eleven of the sites allow RV's, the rest are tents only.

Tent sites...

There are a few benches along the way with great views of the lake...

The long site on the left requires a disabled permit...

Marsh area to the left of the path pictured below...
This trail continues around the lake...we'll do that another day...
We turned around here at the water outflow station...

Site 2A & 2B...with our neighbour Tony from Alberta...
View of highway 93 from inside our rig...so yes, you can hear some highway noise...

Once back from our walk, I updated our blog while Steve put out the solar lights around our yard. Then we sat outside relaxing in our chairs enjoying the lake views...it's so nice to see trees and be on a lake! Steve is also in his glory watching fighter jets fly by as we seem to be on their flight path to their practice area. The weather forecast for tomorrow is for rain and thunderstorms, so we may just have to hunker down for a day before we can get out for more exploring of the area.
