Friday, February 7, 2014 (Travel to Pilot Knob LTVA, California...near Yuma, AZ)

Considering that we haven't moved in over 2 months, today's pack-up went very smoothly. We were ready and on the road just before 9:00 a.m. We had ourselves a convoy...lead by Earl and Allison, then Eric and Janet...and then us. Bob and Sue decided to leave late yesterday afternoon. They sent an email last night saying that the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) camping spot was full. The VFW was our "plan A"...so we had to go to "plan B"...Pilot Knob LTVA, which is just across the border into California, west of Yuma, AZ.

It was a beautiful morning as we headed south on highway 95...

We passed by a Border Patrol Station...all traffic heading north is diverted through the station...

Military vehicle on the Yuma Proving Ground...
 Yuma Proving Ground...

Turn off to Yuma Proving Ground and Imperial Dam Recreation area...

Yes, the VFW looks pretty full...

We turned off highway 95 onto Fortuna Road. Before Pilot Knob, we are stopping at Fry's to pick up groceries.

A couple of hours later, our convoy was back on the road, going west on I-8....

The Colorado River...
...and into California...
Pilot Knob is the hill in the distance...

We took the exit to Sidewinder Road, turning left towards Pilot Knob LTVA...

Bob had called Earl with the GPS co-ordinates to their location, so we easily found them about a half mile into the LTVA...

It was close to 1:00 when we arrived and all found our spots in the desert. We were quite surprised...and happy...to find the spot we had pulled into was completely level...sweet!...we won't have to unhitch...

Our rig is on the far left, Bob and Sue's trailer behind Earl's truck, Eric and Janet's trailer in the distance and and Earl and Allison's trailer in the foreground...

Sorry...our camera doesn't do well on panorama shots... (Click to enlarge)

After getting the inside all set up, I got things organized for dinner...I had gotten the chili out of the freezer yesterday and it was almost thawed out from sitting in the fridge. We were serving the gang dinner tonight and Alan and Cec were also joining us. It will be good to see them again!

Cec and Alan arrived shortly before 4:30...and we all enjoyed cocktails before dinner...

At 6:00 we moved around to the other sunny side of the trailer where the firepit was. It was also dinner time...

Bob is getting the fire ready...

We had a lovely evening sitting around the campfire chatting. As the fire died down, the wind came up and it started getting cool...but it was getting late, time to call it an evening. Another great evening with great people!
