Wednesday, January 30, 2013 (Rockhouse Trail, Borrrego Springs, CA)

Today we thought that we would go for one last ATV ride in the area.  One part of the Ocotillo Wells SVRA that we didn't get a chance to ride was the north side...known as the "badlands".  As it turns out, access to that area is just 20 minutes east on highway 22.

It was 11:30 by the time we had off-loaded the quads, loaded the cargo boxes and were off.  This was the first time using our new helmet radios that ChatterBox had just replaced.  Well, our initial view on them is that they are not much better than the old ones...probably why they gave them to us at no cost.  However, with a little tweaking of the setting, they didn't seem too bad...problem was that they were inconsistent...great one minute and not so good the next.

We started our ride on the Tectonic Gorge Trail.  Our first stop was at the location of the filming of the Season Finale of The X-Files in 2002...

This is the cliff that the explosion took place...

Shortly after that, we came across this little oasis...

Great views!

After riding the Tectonic Gorge Trail, we took the Tierra Del Sol Trail.  Down I go...

...and then Steve...

Lots of places to have a little more fun...

The picture doesn't really do it justice but the stripes on the rocks were very pretty...

Another tough day at the office!!!

Steve...

An hour and a half later we were back from where we started.  We had our lunch before continuing on with another ride.

At about 1:00, we headed out for another ride...this time we took the Gettysburg Trail...

Deep crevasses in the walls of this gorge...

Mud drippings down the wall of the canyon...

Okay already...enough stopping for pictures!

We finished the Gettysburg Trail, which met up with the Tectonic Gorge Trail and rode the Tierra Del Sol Trail again.  But instead of taking a turnoff back to where the truck is parked, we continued on the Tierra Del Sol Trail. Up we go...

Down we go...

A "two thumbs up" ride!

We turned onto the Arroyo Salada Trail...the trails are very well marked...

To Bus Wash...

It was just before 3:00 by the time we got back to the truck...or should I say, when I got back to the truck...Steve decided to take a ride up on top of the hills first.  Can you see me waving down there by the truck?

Great view from up there...

Then it was time to load up...

We highly recommend Ocotillo Wells SVRA. It's an awesome area for all skill levels of riding with  literally thousands of hill climbs. We managed to play on some but spent most of our time exploring most of the trails in the park. There are plenty of free campsites with picnic tables and cabanas and clean washrooms. Since it is a very popular area, we would suggest visiting the area during the week...it gets very busy during the weekends!

We had had another great ride...once we got home, it was time to relax and enjoy the late afternoon sunshine before it goes down behind the mountain...ahhh....
