Monday, February 4, 2013 (Black Rock Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, CA)

The sky was clear this morning...just a gorgeous start to the day!  But it was cold out there.  Steve has the furnace set to come on at 55F/12C and it ran quite a bit last night.  We had our usual morning...coffee, BCTV morning news and laptop...and then did our exercises.  While Steve was having his shower, I got breakfast going.
This is the view out the window as I sat down for breakfast...

At about 11:00, we walked down to the Nature Center to check it out...

They have a nice display inside describing the area, vegetation and wildlife...

After getting some information on good hiking trails, we went back to the trailer to get ready for a hike...we are going to take the High View Nature Trail.  It was shortly after 11:30 when we headed for the trail.

As the trail name suggests, it goes up the mountain to some awesome vistas...

Nope, we're not at the top yet...this is just a scenic rest stop...

We made it to the top!  That's our rig...way, way down there...

Now we get to go down...

Almost home!  Two hours later and 2.7 miles up and down a mountain, we were back.  A great hike with stunning views!

We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing.  Steve took care of some emails while I chopped up some veggies and made Greek salad.  Although it was sunny out, the temperature only went up to 60F/15C and the wind had come up, so we decided to stay inside.

Tomorrow we plan on exploring the rest of Joshua Tree National Park which means we have to drive out of this portion of the park and go to either the west or north park entrances.
