Wednesday, July 20, 2011 (Kokanee Creek Provincial Park, Nelson, BC)

There were broken clouds with bits of sunshine coming through when I got up this morning...maybe it wasn’t going to be too bad of a day.  We weren’t sure what we were going to do today but after awhile we decided that we would just hang around here and hike some of the trails.
As soon as Steve got up he gathered his towel and shampoo and rode his bike over to the showers...yes, there are showers here and they are free.  They have one shower building over in the main campground that serves the whole campground...there are 5 shower stalls on the women’s side so I imagine that there are the same number on the men’s side (although Steve tried to tell me there are more...haha...).  There are very few Provincial Campgrounds that have showers.
After exercises and a bowl of cereal, it was my turn to ride over to the showers.  It was 9:30 and pretty busy over there but I managed to get into a stall just as someone finished so luckily I didn’t have to wait.
They have recently added Wifi at the Visitors Centre and since it has been over a month since I had done any banking, I had some bills to pay.  So once back from having a shower, I slung the laptop case over my shoulder, hopped back on my bike and rode to the Visitors Centre.  There was a good strong signal and after taking care of the banking, I also managed to add one more day to our travel blog.  While there, a fellow from Nelson Hydro came in and asked if the Centre wanted to add to their wildlife display.  Apparently while working the lines, they had found a huge Osprey that had come in contact with a transformer and had been electrocuted.  It even had a fish clenched in its talons.  I’m just overhearing this conversation but I believe the outcome is that they were going to put it in a freezer until they could get it to a taxidermy.
After a couple hours, I decided it was time to head back to the trailer...probably time for a little lunch and then a hike.  When I got back, Steve was just finishing up after changing the oil in the generator. After lunch he was going to spray some Home Defence around the trailer and picnic table. So far there is no evidence of the ants entering the trailer but they are everywhere, and after being badly invaded once in Georgia....he didn’t want to take any chances.

The sun was playing an on again/off again game...hmmm...maybe we should drive into Nelson and do our laundry and grocery shopping.  Oh, the sun is out...okay, let’s go for a hike.  Okay...now the sun is shining and it’s raining...sheesh!  There were some big dark clouds hanging over the mountains so we decided that the weather was just too unpredictable to go spend the afternoon out on the trails.  So we loaded all the laundry and recycling into the truck and headed into Nelson.
For some reason, it was the longest afternoon ever...the laundry seemed to take forever and then we went to Walmart...and then to Save-On-Foods.  We were finally all done but it was going on to 6pm by this time!  We were both exhausted!
After getting all the groceries and laundry put away, we had a quick dinner and relaxed in front of the TV for the rest of the evening.
