Friday, July 8, 2011 (McDonald Creek Provincial Park, Nakusp, BC)

Well, the weatherman was right...it was cloudy and much cooler when we got up this morning.  As usual, I updated our travel journal while drinking coffee and watching the morning news.  After exercises and breakfast, we debated on what to do today...should we do laundry today or tomorrow?  Since the weather was looking pretty yucky today, we decided we might as well do it today.

We left for Nakusp and the coin laundry that we had spotted at the junction of highways 6 and 23 in a big service station complex.  I put on 3 loads of laundry while Steve settled on the bench outside to read a magazine.  Although it seemed to take for forever, the laundry was all done in slightly over an hour.

While waiting for the laundry, we had decided to take a drive up to Nakusp Hot Springs when done.  We wanted to go take a look but we weren’t going to go into the pools...although today would be a perfect day...cloudy and cool.
Nakusp Hot Springs is about 12 kms east off the highway up into the mountains.  There was a beautiful waterfall along the way as well as a very fast running Kuskanax River...

The Hot Springs are smaller and much less “glitzy” than Halcyon...very basic and quite rustic looking.  Being a much cooler day, there was lots of steam rising off the pools....(there is a bit of a reflection because we had to take it through the window)...

There are some chalets for rent as well as a campground (it was pretty empty when we went by)...

After stopping in Nakusp to fuel up with diesel, we headed home...and had a late lunch.  It was pretty chilly out so Steve chopped wood for a campfire and then relaxed for a bit while I put away our clean laundry and made spaghetti sauce for dinner.
Steve lit the fire and we enjoyed our happy hour outside.  After a little while, the sun actually decided to come out so we moved our chairs down to the beach area.  It is absolutely amazing how far the water has come up.  There is basically no sandy beach anymore...the water is right up into the tall grass.

After such a late lunch, we had a later dinner...and after doing the pile of dishes that had mounted up over the day, we settled in the watch TV before heading to bed.  Only one more day here before we head off to another spot in the beautiful Kootenays...
