Monday, April 11, 2016 (Travel to Old Hedley Road East Recreation Site, Hedley, BC)

Shortly before 10:00 Monday morning, I sent a text to Sue letting her know that we were almost ready to hit the road. A few minutes later, Doug and Sue, along with Tucker, came down to see us off. After big hugs...and a final cookie for Tucker...we were on our way. See you towards the end of May, guys!

We made our way back to highway 3 and headed west...goodbye Osoyoos! Thanks for welcoming us back to Canada with such awesome weather! There is quite a climb, whether going east or west when you leave Osoyoos. The views of Osoyoos Lake in the Okanagan Valley are spectacular...too bad we have a cloudy day today.

We had an uneventful...and short...travel day today through the beautiful Similkameen Valley. Here are some pictures along the way...

Similkameen River...

We stopped in Keremeos at the sani dump to fill up with fresh water...and nearly froze in the cold wind!

Downtown...
Our destination for today wasn't much further. We continued west towards Hedley...
An old church and cemetery...

...and pulled into Old Hedley Road  East Recreation Site East shortly after 11:30. By this time, the breeze was blowing the clouds away and we had sunshine. Nice! As we pulled into the rec site, we decided to park and get out and walk the area...we never want to get into a spot that we can't get out of! There was only one other RV there. We chose a spot and as we were walking back to get the rig, another RV was coming down the road, so I quickly walked back to hold our chosen spot.
We got situated in our site, leveled off, unhitched...and Steve went to work setting up outside while I did the same inside.
Steve even decided to go up on the roof and tilt the solar panels to get as much sunshine as possible...

About an hour or so later, we were relaxing outside in the sunshine.

The rec site is situated along Old Hedley Road next to the Similkameen River...with highway 3 across the river. So along with a nice view of the river atop a steep bank, you also have a little traffic noise. We can't see the campground being a destination spot where people come to camp...other than perhaps fishermen wanting to fish the river. Right now, though, the river is high and very fast moving...and with a very steep bank, access is tough, so I don't think Steve will be bringing out his fishing rod. Also, as suspected, we have no internet or cell service here...oh well, being off-line for a few days won't hurt us (...yikes!) Oh...I should mention, the site was free! Apparently, they don't start charging until May 15...then it's $12/night.

We chased the sun, moving our chairs numerous times, until just before 6:00 when we headed inside for dinner...and settle in for an evening of our favourite TV shows.
