Thursday and Friday, February 26 and 27, 2015 (Pilot Knob LTVA, CA/Yuma, AZ)

We were up and on the road to Los Algodones, Mexico shortly before 8:30 this morning. Steve has another visit with Dr. Juan Bernal of The Bernal Group to have a tooth looked at after a small piece broke off it last month.

There are lots of RV's parked at the Quechan Resort Casino...

There was a steady stream of vehicles heading towards the border and the parking lot...

Steve ended up needing another crown...yay! The tooth was prepped for the crown and we will have to return tomorrow afternoon to have it put it. The crown cost $200 this time, down from $270 from the last one...we figured it may be because he didn't need x-rays or a visit with the root canal specialist this time.

After he was finished at the dentist, we decided to go to El Paraiso for a drink and a bite to eat. Steve had a Corona beer and I had a Margarita...
We shared Shrimp Tacos...
A very festive atmosphere...just like being in a Mexican resort!
A couple jiving to the live music...
One of the many entrances...

After lunch, we did the usual wandering around checking out the goods...

Helicopter with lots of trinkets below...I think the vendor wanted Steve to pay for taking a picture...not!

It is much busier here than it was last December...and therefore the lineup at the border crossing was much longer than what we experienced before. But it moved quickly, taking about 15 to 20 minutes to get back into the USA...and the truck.
This is the Alamo Canal as we head back up towards the I-8...

WOW...look at those California fuel prices ($4.00). Last week we paid $2.69 per/gal for diesel in Ehrenberg, AZ....

Before going into the LTVA, where we are, we thought we'd take a drive down to the 14 day BLM camping area at Pilot Knob. We like where we are much better with the views and rolling hills,  plus it's much closer to the exit. It's still our least favourite BLM though...

Pilot Knob in the distance...

It was around 2:00 when we got home. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and doing a little reading. A beautiful sunset tonight...

Steve's appointment with the dentist wasn't until 2:00 on Friday, so we had a pretty lazy morning...eventually getting to our exercises, showers and breakfast. Our original plan was to show Red and Pam around Los Algodones and have lunch but one of their dogs was sick so they had to bow out.
While I sat with the laptop doing a little banking and other odds and ends, Steve thought he'd go for a walk around this area and take a few pictures...

...and a close-up shot of our rig...
Museum of History in Granite in the distance...

Looking towards Algodones, Mexico. You don't see much in the daytime but there are lots of lights at night...

Ocotillo in bloom, Pilot Knob in the background...

Looking out our back window the US/Mexico border fence along the Imperial Sand Dunes...

At about 1:00 we decided to head down to Los Algodones. We were a little early for Steve's appointment so we wandered around a bit...

After his appointment, we decided to go back to El Paraiso for a cocktail. Today I tried a Strawberry Margarita and Steve had a Corona. We took a selfie...darned sunshine was so bright that I'm really squinting!

There was a lineup at the border crossing again...but like yesterday, it moved quickly and we were through in about 20 minutes. By the time we got home the wind was really starting to pick up. There was so much dust that you can barely see the distant mountains and they eventually disappeared!
Pilot Knob looking a little hazy...

The setting sun looks like the moon through the dust! When Steve first noticed the shadow across the sun it was split in half, but by the time he took the picture it was almost over with...

We hunkered down inside for the evening while the wind rattled the slide toppers and rocked the trailer. It's supposed to be "breezy" tomorrow...hopefully it's not too bad for the Yuma Air Show!

  1. Hi guys! I was googling trying to find out information on Juan Bernal, DDS. Are you guys still happy with him and his work? Just trying to choose the “right” dentist. Thanks in advance for any info you can share

    1. Yes, as a matter of fact, I am just making another appointment. We seem to make a visit to his office every year we are down in the area.
