Tuesday, December 30, 2014 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Today we went on a long quad ride...so just a warning: another picture intensive blog post! Today I was the photographer...poor Steve had to edit my 276 photos getting it down to 96. Don't forget...you can click on any picture to see a larger version.

It was a chilly morning, so we bundled up (long johns and all) and with helmets and lunch in hand, we walked down to Bob and Sue's place. We are not taking our quads on this ride since we do not have the required licence plate on them to ride in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Sue has graciously offered her side-by-side RZR to us...she will ride with Vince in his RZR.

Here we are...just about to head out. I took this picture from the RZR...that's Sue and Vince in the other RZR, Bob is standing beside them, and then Art and Laurie on quads...
Bob is leading the way...

It's a bit of a drive to just get to the Kofa boundary...

We stopped at a kiosk at this entrance and picked up a map...

And so begins our tour of the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Our first stop was at Crystal Hill...located in the northwest corner of the refuge, in the Livingston Hills, it is the only area within the refuge where recreational rock or mineral collecting is permitted.

We also found a geocache that was hidden in the area...

We continued on past Twelvemile Well...

Time for a break...
Sue, Vince and me...
Great view from up here!
The way the lava looking rocks are dispersed it appears that they were dropped there from a blast?

We're going to Kofa Cabin...

And there it is!

Steve took a selfie including me and Laurie...
We were trying to position everyone so that Laurie could get a selfie of all of us. Bob is boosting Sue up on the window ledge...too funny! It would have been much easier to just bring a tripod!

Bandit is riding with Bob...
Coco is riding in the back of RZR with us...
A selfie!

Another break...Sue took this picture of us in her RZR...

And another selfie!

We drove through this canyon...absolutely beautiful!

The end of the road...I believe this is called High Tank...

...another watering hole for wildlife. We also found another geocache here.

On the way back, we stopped at De La Ossa Well. It involved a bit of a hike into the mountains to see it...

Bob and Art...

There was also another geocache there!

By the time we were back at our quads, it was after 3:30...time to head home!

My turn to drive the RZR...

It was after 5:00 by the time we got home...about 80 miles (129 kms) and 3 geocaches! That puts us at 703 geocaches we have found since Earl and Allison introduced us to this new adventure almost 3 years ago!

Steve quickly gassed up the RZR and then returned it (and Coco) to Bob and Sue. We quickly got cleaned up and then walked across the way to see fellow RV-Dreamers Red and Pam (el Rojo and Pam)...they had arrived this afternoon. We spent a couple of hours with them catching up and then headed home. So good seeing them...we're glad they were able to make it here!
