Wednesday, October 30, 2013 (Travel to Guaranty RV, Junction City, OR)

It was a cold, frosty start to the day this morning with a few clouds...making for a lovely pink sky as the sun came up...

The thermometer registered a very chilly 32F/0C when Steve headed outside to start his pack up...brrr! It was 9:00 a.m. when we pulled out of our site and said goodbye to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum.  We had enjoyed our week but were glad to be back on the road.

We took highway 99W that goes straight south...we are headed for Guaranty RV in Junction City to have our annual brake and bearing inspection and the new wheels and tires installed on the trailer.  It was an absolutely beautiful drive.

We passed vineyard after vineyard along with a few orchards and even a lavender farm. The fall colors are spectacular...

We arrived at Guaranty RV at about 11:00.  The overnight camping/storage area was pretty full but we managed to get a spot in the back corner. We leveled off, unhitched, put the sliders out and I did a minimal setup inside while Steve "plugged" us in...50 amp power...nice!

We walked over to the service department to let John, our service rep, know that we were here but he wasn't in today. We were mainly wanting to confirm that our wheels and tires had arrived from Trailer Tires and Wheels.  The fellow covering for John today wasn't available so we said that we would pop in later this afternoon.

Shopping was on the agenda for this afternoon, so we headed off towards Eugene/Springfield...our first stop was Costco. After stocking up there, we headed to Steve's favourite store...Cabela's.  We were both after new footwear and thought that Cabela's might be a good place for Keen's. We had heard about them from another couple who really liked them and thought we'd like to give them a try. Unfortunately, Cabela's really didn't have much of a selection. The sales rep suggested that we try Dick's Sporting Goods...so we headed there.

Steve managed to get a pair of Keen's trail shoes but they didn't have my size in the pair I wanted, so I ended up with a pair of good running shoes...which makes sense because I already have a pair of hiking boots.

It was almost 4:30 by the time we got back to the trailer. Steve went right over to the service department while I unloaded and put away our groceries. Steve was soon back with the news that our wheels and tires had arrived from Trailer Tires and Wheels. He grabbed the camera and went back out to take this picture of a motorhome just down from us. Ouch! I hope no one was hurt in this accident...

Time to sit outside and enjoy the late afternoon sunshine...

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 (Olde Stone Village RV Park, McMinnville, OR)

We woke to another cool morning, but the sky was clear and the sun was shining...it's going to be a beautiful day!  After our usual start to the day, we did our exercises, showered, had breakfast, then it was time to get to work.

It was mid morning when I started hauling our laundry to the laundry room...just a short distance from our site.  The facilities are really nice...3 washers and dryers ($1.25 each), a nice waiting area, a book exchange and even desks to sit with your laptop...

Housed in the same building (along the left wall) are the restrooms/showers...individual rooms, like your own personal bathroom...very nice...

While I was doing laundry, Steve was outside putting things away then flushing and draining our tanks in preparation for our departure tomorrow.

It was mid afternoon by the time all the laundry was done, the trailer vacuumed, and the bathroom cleaned. Steve had also finished all his work...so it was time to get out for a power walk around the complex.  Steve took a couple of shots of the RV Park. This is a reasonably priced, beautiful RV park,,,

After our walk, I spent a frustrating hour or so trying to add time to our TracFone. We bought the minutes card at Walmart the other day and since the service was going to expire in a couple of days, I thought I had better add the time and extend the date.  I went online to our account and all went smoothly with the process of adding the minutes...but...the time would not transfer over to the phone. Finally, it said that I had to phone customer service. To make a long story short, they needed to re-program the phone so when you call, it has to be another phone...a challenge since it is the only active phone we have. After trying numerous times using Skype, I finally got through using Talkatone, an app on our iPad.  After inputting a long code into the phone, as directed by the TracFone rep, all was good.

I took care of a couple of other odds and ends that I wanted to get done before we head off tomorrow, while Steve enjoyed the sunshine outside.  Before long, though, he was inside...it was getting chilly out there.

And that was pretty much our day...we are ready to head off tomorrow to Guaranty RV in Junction City.

Sunday and Monday, October 27 and 28, 2013 (Olde Stone Village RV Park, McMinneville, OR)

Sunday was a pretty lazy day.  It was quite blustery out which really had the clouds moving...one minute the sun was shining...the next, it was gone. There were also bouts of rain.  We wanted to get out for a powerwalk but it took a couple of tries before we managed to because of the rain. 

Finally just after noon, we headed out and walked the perimeter of the museum complex next door.  Along the way we stopped at the Wings and Waves Waterpark...there is a 747 on the roof of the building and that's where the slides start...very cool!  I wish we had our camera with us!  It looks like it would be a blast...but it's a little pricey, $32 each. 

We were almost home when we started feeling a few drops of rain starting...and just managed to get inside before it started pouring.  Good timing!  We had a good 40 minute walk...time to hunker down inside for the rest of the day.

Monday we woke to clear sky...sweet!  However, along with the clear sky is coming much cooler temperatures...the high today is 59F/15C.  It was sure nice seeing the blue sky and sunshine again, though!

Today we thought we would go into McMinnville and visit the historic downtown area.  It was shortly after 10:00 when we headed out.

It didn't really look like much but after driving the length of 3rd Street, we decided to park and walk it. The street is lined with refurbished heritage buildings that now house numerous shops, cafes, restaurants and wine tasting rooms.  There are tons of vineyards and wineries in the area!

Halloween decorations were also out...

We walked up one side and back down the other and were back at the truck in about 20 minutes. Well alrighty then...what shall we do now?  The main attraction of the area is the museums and otherwise unless you want to visit an endless number of wineries for wine tasting (sounds good to me!), there really isn't much else.  We decided to drive to the Wilco True Value Hardware store and pick up some Fresh Cab...($14.99 for a 4 pack) just like to keep a supply of the rodent repellent around.  Along the way, we saw a little more of McMinnville too.

We found what we were after, did a little wandering around the hardware store and then decided to go out for lunch at a local brewery...Golden Valley Brewery for lunch.

I wish I could say we had a really great lunch, but it was actually quite disappointing.  The owners of the brewery also own Angus Springs Ranch and provide the beef for the restaurant, so an Angus Springs all natural beef burger sounded like a good idea. Actually, an Angus Springs steak sounded good but we weren't here for dinner...we thought we would stick to a burger.  Steve had the Brewpub with Tillamook cheese and pepper bacon, while I went for the Wowsa Yowsa that had portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers and blue cheese.  Well, we both found the buns, although toasted, were cold, and the burger dry and tasteless.  I know the hamburger should be cooked through but all I could taste on mine was the charbroiled burnt flavour...which obviously drowned out the blue cheese that I was looking forward to. Oh well, the surroundings were nice.

After lunch, we stopped at Albertson's for just a few groceries...I was looking for unsweetened shredded coconut and they hadn't had any at Safeway so I thought I'd try Albertson's. Well, they didn't have it either, so I asked the checkout clerk...she suggested I try a health food store...huh?!

Once we got home, we went right out for a walk...time to take in some fresh air and enjoy the sunshine!  It was also time to take pictures of the static aircraft displays outside. We walked the perimeter of the grounds again...this time Steve had his camera.  Yes, more pictures of planes...so if you're not an aviation enthusiast like my husband, you may find them boring! The museum isn't large enough to contain the 200 aircraft here.

We had another nice walk around the grounds...more of a stroll today.  By the time we got home, we were chilly and anxious to get out of the wind.  It was quite blustery out there...keeping the clouds away, at least.

Tomorrow is our last day here so I plan on doing a little house cleaning...take advantage of full hook-ups! Along with the laundry facilities here.
