Saturday, August 24, 2013 (Congdon Creek Campground, Kluane Lake, Yukon)

We woke to the pitter-patter of rain on the roof. Steve got up, put on the coffee and turned on the furnace...and then got back into bed where it was warm.  It was a very chilly morning!

The clouds were low and it was really socked in.  I am so glad that we were able to get a satellite signal...it was the kind of morning where you just wanted to stay inside where it was warm and watch TV.  We eventually decided to do our exercises...have breakfast and get cleaned up.

Just before 10:00, Alan, Cec, Rob and Joyce came over to say goodbye. They are going to Skagway and also plan on taking the Stewart-Cassiar highway south, so we may meet up with them again.  After hugs and handshakes, they were off...safe travels!

With the views we have being backed onto the lake....not to mention that muddy road construction we went through yesterday...the windows were in bad need of washing.  So that was Steve's first job of the day....

While he was doing that, I did the dishes, cleaned up and did some baking. By the time we were both finished, bits of blue sky were starting to break through but it was still chilly out.  Steve chopped some firewood and got a fire going and we spent the afternoon outside.

The lagoon that is now full of water was completely dry when we were here last month.  The weather was also a lot nicer then!

It's very windy and blustery out on the water...far too windy for Steve to fish (something he really wanted to do)...

Luckily we are fairly sheltered in our campsite by the fire.  The temperature only got up to 11.9C/53F so it was nice sitting by the campfire.  At happy hour today we brought out a bottle of Yukon Jack that Steve had bought (after having it with his Sourtoe Cocktail in Dawson City)...it was time for a toast...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STEVE!!

A bit of a rainbow happening here...

The snow-line is definitely coming down...

We sat by the fire until 6:00 and then I went inside to get dinner going while Steve put out the fire and put our chairs away.  After dinner we watched TV for a bit and then decided to go to bed and watch it in there...that way we could warm up under the covers! It was going to be another cold night.
