Saturday, November 24, 2012 (Midland LTVA, Blythe, CA)

It was another beautiful day...we have been told that it is less windy and hotter than usual with temperatures in the low 80’s (27C).  Our plan for today was to go out for another quad ride this morning and then go with Dennis and Charlene to the car races.  Unfortunately, our plans got a little side tracked.

Instead of using the water in our tanks for dish water, we fill a big pot with water from our blue water containers and heat it on the stove top.  We have had this pot for years and I had noticed a small dent on the bottom side...but I never expected that it would actually spring a leak.  Well, guess what?  I had just poured some of the hot water into the sink and when I picked up the pot again, there was a steady stream of water coming out of the bottom side of the pot.  Yes, there was water everywhere...on the stove top, which had gone down into the oven and to the drawer below.

So after getting that mess cleaned up and the dishes done, we decided to go for our quad ride tomorrow and go into town today to see if we could find another big pot.  There is an Ace Hardware as well as a K-Mart so hopefully we will find one.  Well, you know what it is like when you have had something for years that is just perfect...the right size and shape...and then you have to replace it...not so easy.  One pot was the right shape but just a tad bit too small...and the other one was way too big...sheesh!  We ended up buying the big one...it’s a pot used for canning...but I think we are going to end up taking it back.  We forgot to fill up the water containers when we were in Blythe so we won’t need to use the pot until we make another trip into town....probably Monday.  So I think we will have to exchange the pot for the smaller one.

We were leaving at 2:30 to go to the race track with Dennis and Charlene so we had a couple of hours to relax. However Steve noticed that my quad had a very low rear tire so he pumped it up for me. The only damage he could find on the tire was a small cut on the sidewall but after wetting it with dish soap there were no bubbles...so I guess that means a trip to a tire shop delaying our Sunday ride as well. After that Steve sat outside reading his book while I spent my time checking out an RV park in Indio, California that my brother and sister-in-law had suggested we stay at when we visit them.  Indian Waters RV Resort is only 3 miles from them and is a Passport America member.  There was nothing on their website that indicated they were PA members, so I gave them a call.  Yes...PA members can stay at a rate of $16 or $18 per night for up to 2 weeks...sweet!  They have sites available in January right now, so we just have to decide when we are going to be there and then make reservations.  We rarely make reservations but because we know that this is the park that we want to stay at and January is high season, we will make reservations...probably for early January when we get back from Victoria.  We just have to get the timing all figured out for the servicing we want done on both the truck and the fifth-wheel.  We are going to take the truck back to the same place in Phoenix that serviced it last year.  The same for the trailer...we’re hoping for a warranty fix back at RV Traders in Mesa where we were last year as well.  Hopefully, we can get it all set up and work done before we leave for Victoria on December 14...then when we return, we can head right to Indio.

Just before 2:30, we walked over to Dennis and Charlene’s and went with them to the car races.  It has been years and years since we have been to the races!  As we pulled into the parking lot, who should we see but our ATV friends from Prince George, BC...Bob and Sue Stewart!  We first met them last winter in Wickenburg, Arizona and then connected with them again in BC at ATV/BC’s poker ride in Merritt and the GPS run at Three Valley Gap.  They are back down staying in Quartzsite for the winter.  I’m sure we will see them again when we go to La Posa South LTVA in January.

The Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway is located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe...a very nice facility. Today's races feature Street Stocks, Legend cars powered by motorcycle engines that resemble scale models of roadsters from the 1930's and 1940's era and the Bandolera cars driven by youngsters.
This is the concession building as we walk to the stands...

And he's a winner again...

Another trophy for this fellow...and would you believe that the little guy (standing on his car #4) is only 8 years old!

We were home shortly after 6:00 and after dinner, we just vegged in front of the TV...I think we were tired from our long "happy hour" last night!
