Saturday, November 10, 2012 (Crossroads BLM Campground, Parker, AZ)

It was mid morning, we had had a big breakfast, cleaned up...now...what shall we do today?  Steve had a couple of suggestions...we could drive up towards Parker Dam or we could offload the quads and ride to The Desert Bar.  We had heard of The Desert Bar a couple of years ago when we had been in this area.  We hadn’t had time to go back then so we definitely wanted to go this time...so today was the day.

It was a much cooler day with broken clouds and a light wind...which got a little stronger as the day progressed.  We drove to Cienega Springs Road which is off highway 95 and found a spot to offload the quads.  There were already several other vehicles there and more and more were arriving as we got ready to head off.  I was amazed at the number of vehicles either stopping to offload their 4-wheelers or just carrying on...there was a steady stream and there is also that 4 Wheelers Jeep Rally...so it’s going to be busy out there!

Once we got the quads out, Steve had to pump up the tires...we had gone from an elevation of over 6000 feet where the tire pressure was 4 pounds...down to just over 400 feet and now the tires were almost flat at 1 pound.

We were finally ready to go...Steve thought that the Desert Bar was about 25 miles away but next thing we knew, we were there.  It was only about 5 miles...guess it must have been 25 minutes (in a vehicle driving on a bumpy gravel road) not miles.

The "Nellie E Saloon" (The Desert Bar) is located in the Buckskin Mountains on land that was an old mining camp.  What a very cool place!  It is only open on weekends and is closed through the very hot summer months.  We parked the quads...

...and walked across the covered footbridge...

We were just in time for the band to start playing so we grabbed a beer and sat down at a table to watch...

The Bob Gulley Band was awesome...

Everyone was having a great time...

There is seating all over the place...

There is a place for fast-food down below...you can also get hamburgers, hotdogs and chili up at the bar (absolutely no cheese, though!!)

A bench and rocking chair made out of horseshoes...also a cactus behind me...very cool...

Even a game of horseshoes happening...

Steve walked up the hill to take some pictures...

There is a collection of old vehicles...

We spent a couple of hours there, had something to eat and then decided it was time to head back.  On our way back to the quads, we checked out the church.  It is made of solid steel and the walls and ceiling are made of the same stamped tin used inside the bar.  The roof is made of copper.  The names inscribed on the plaques in the church are people who donated money to help build the church.  It is a unique place for weddings and a great photo spot...
Hmmm...that's a rather dark cloud looming over the mountain...

On the way back we decided to check out one of the many trails in the area...

We really didn't do much riding, but we sure had a great afternoon!
