Friday, August 5, 2011 (Travel to Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park, Cranbrook, BC)

We were all packed up and heading on our way at about 10:15 this morning...our ETA for Jimsmith Lake was 10:35...so we didn’t have far to go.

Unfortunately, the site we had been in before (#10) was already occupied but since the tag on their post indicated that they were paid up until today, I asked if they were leaving...nope...darn!  The next two sites were also occupied but both were leaving today...yay!  Both are up the hill and are good sized sites...the only problem we might have is being able to manoeuvre the 5th wheel back into them.  The one we really wanted (site #11) was perched up on the hill and was quite open to the southern sky so we thought we might even be able to get a satellite signal.  We waited for almost an hour for the people to get packed up and out. Steve had to drive around the loop several time to let vehicles through. When it came time to back into the site, we just couldn’t make the turn.  The road in the park is quite narrow (just wide enough for one-way traffic) and with the site being on a hill, there was a steep drop-off on the other side of the road. Therefore there was just nowhere for Steve to manoeuvre the truck...so scratch that site...let’s try the next site that was up further just at the top of the hill and on the other side of the road. Down below a young lady had noticed Steve driving around and around and offered up her pull thru site. (It was also too small for us.) She said her husband wasn’t there so Steve would have to move her to another site. He thanked her and said that he had to let vehicles through and that we had a couple more sites to try. After one try at it and with a car waiting to get by, Steve said to heck with it and decided to just go into a double site that was further along the road. Well, it wasn’t what we wanted but at least we are in a site.  We would be willing to move tomorrow should the folks in #10 leave but when the park attendant came around to collect, he said that they were staying for another week and a half...well, fine...we paid for 3 nights and will likely head out on Monday towards the Fernie area.
After getting all set up and having lunch, we drove into Cranbrook.  Steve was out of beer and we were also out of bread, so I needed to pick up a few groceries as well.  As we came out of Save-On Foods, we noticed that some big dark clouds had rolled in...and it didn’t look very nice out in the direction of the campground.  Sure enough, just as we approached home, it started to rain...yup...didn’t we wash the trailer yesterday??  It wasn’t long before we started hearing the booming rumble of thunder...we couldn’t really see any lightning...just lots of thunder.
We sat outside under the awning...it rained a little off and on but it really didn’t amount to much.  And when the sun decided to peek through the breaks in the cloud, we moved our chairs out to catch some rays.  We sat out until dinner time watching RV after RV roll in...I think the place was going to be full tonight.

After dinner, we decided to stay inside and watch some downloaded shows on TV...and then we headed to bed.  It was pretty warm inside the trailer tonight...too bad we don’t have 50 amp power so we could turn the air conditioning on...
